Spotify: Listen to new music, podcasts, and songs review

Spotify is an online radio that lets you customize its air as you want, according to your preferences. Just name some artists and particular songs you like, and the service will offer you more of the stuff you might probably like too.

Design and Usability 5/5

The app is made to be as comfortable as it can be. As you launch it, it takes just one swipe and one tap to turn on one of your personalized stations. If you create a personalized playlist, the service starts offering you tracks when you have added some. For each suggestion you accept, it gives you three more that can be just as great.

Spotify is well integrated with third-party services like Shazam, Snapchat, music stores (like BeatPort or iTunes), or voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant. It’s also compatible with smart home speakers by Google and Amazon; as for Apple, HomePod Mini can have its support soon too.

Key Functions 5/5

With Spotify, you can stream music from Spotify’s library to your device. It’s great when it comes to creating personal playlists and smart stations that cater to your tastes. The streaming quality is very decent.

If you opt for the free plan, though, it constantly interrupts your music with ads, advertising its own paid plans. It also limits the number of skips per hour, lowers the quality, and locks some premium features that are available if you subscribe. The most attracting thing about premium, though, is offline listening and on-demand streaming.

Security 3.5/5

Well, Spotify admins know no service can feel absolutely secure. So, especially given that its security has been rated as weak, the service collaborates with HackerOne. White hackers are constantly searching for vulnerabilities in the service, for the staff to cover these as soon as they are detected. As for regular users, you may feel safe if you’re on a free account. But if you pay (that is, trust Spotify with your credit cards), you better double your efforts on inventing safer passwords, protecting your bank transactions, and so on.

Cons:

  • Some important releases available elsewhere are missing on Spotify
  • Security issues reported.

Pros:

  • Tons of great music
  • Radio that caters to your preferences
  • Affordable plans, including a free ad-supported one.
