UNIT Faces New Threat in Doctor Who Spin-Off The War Between the Land and the Sea

The War Between the Land and the Sea, a new Doctor Who spin-off, is officially in development. This announcement was made during the Doctor Who panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, which featured appearances by actors Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, as well as showrunner Russell T Davies.

The forthcoming miniseries will center around UNIT, a fictional military organization that has been featured in the original show. According to the official synopsis, when an ancient and fearsome species surfaces from the ocean, unveiling themselves to humanity, an international crisis ensues. With the entire human population at risk, UNIT is compelled to act as a war between the land and sea begins.

Loki's Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Being Human's Russell Tovey will take the lead roles in the miniseries. They will be joined by Doctor Who veterans Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient, who will reprise their roles as UNIT Commander in Chief Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, respectively.

Dylan Holmes-Williams, known for directing Doctor Who season 1 episodes '73 Yards' and 'Dot and Bubble,' will be at the helm of this new series, with filming scheduled to begin next month.

Showrunner, writer, and executive producer Russell T Davies expressed his excitement in a statement, calling the project a "magnificent cast" and describing the drama as "huge, muscular, and thrilling," promising to shake The Whoniverse to its core. He added that humanity would be in danger whenever the Doctor is not around.
