Nicolas Cage's Longlegs: An Unsettling Journey into the Mind of a Serial Killer

Nicolas Cage's new horror movie takes on a more sinister turn with an eerie viral website that chronicles the deadly acts of his character.

The film, titled Longlegs, has amplified its unsettling marketing campaign by introducing a website detailing how the fictional serial killer committed his crimes and how the Oregon police ultimately linked each case.

The website, named The Birthday Murders, features an introductory homepage, a contact email and address, and a thoroughly disturbing section listing each homicide with gruesome detail. Caution is advised as this section contains a gallery of shocking, blood-covered images that may be too graphic for those who are squeamish or averse to potential spoilers.

The site elaborates, sharing that Longlegs has ended the lives of thirty-eight individuals, devastating eleven families across the Beaver State. The victims were described as decent people: honest fathers, caring mothers, and innocent children.

As the film’s release approaches, distributor NEON has offered several enigmatic teasers that emphasize the horrifying atmosphere of the movie rather than its storyline. Written and directed by Osgood Perkins, Longlegs follows FBI Agent Lee Harker, played by Maika Monroe, as she reopens a terrifying, unsolved case. Her investigation takes her deeper into the mysteries and uncovers connections to the occult and a chillingly personal link to the Satan-worshipping killer portrayed by Cage. Can she apprehend and stop him before another tragedy strikes?

The film features a supporting cast including Alicia Witt, Blair Underwood, and Kiernan Shipka from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Perkins shared with SFX that Longlegs blends elements of Silence Of The Lambs with hints of Zodiac and Seven. He hinted at the film’s themes by referencing Manson early in the movie, suggesting the narrative follows this line while presenting its own truth.

Black Bear confirmed earlier this week that it would distribute Longlegs in the UK, with a simultaneous release on July 12, matching the US premiere.
