Anticipation Builds as Gruesome Slasher Hit "In a Violent Nature" Teases Highly-Awaited Sequel

One of 2024's most gory horror movies is set to surprise audiences with an unexpected sequel, which promises to arrive soon. A Violent Nature, a slasher movie that has been unsettling even the most seasoned horror enthusiasts, is getting a follow-up installment. The announcement from IFC Films and Shudder came on July 27, along with a bloody poster featuring a meat hook positioned to resemble the number '2'. A clever touch, indeed!

The first movie, told from the killer's point of view, boasts a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has been compared to genre classics like Friday the 13th and Long Weekend, as well as the cult favorite I Know What You Did Last Summer. Written and directed by Chris Nash, it follows a group of teenagers who are hunted down by the vengeful spirit of a local named Johnny. This spirit seeks revenge for a horrific crime committed 60 years ago and is particularly upset about his mother's necklace being stolen from his spiritually-charged resting place.

Producer Peter Kuplowsky mentioned that the film was initially conceived as a meta-sequel within a fictional slasher series, so they were always imagining chaos beyond the first movie. He expressed immense gratitude to their partners at IFC Films/Shudder for believing in Chris' vision from the beginning and shared their excitement to continue exploring Johnny's story.

In a statement, Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks' film group, noted that In a Violent Nature showed there is still a desire for new perspectives in the horror genre. They were confident that this unique take on the slasher would captivate fans and are pleased with the community's embrace of Johnny as a new slasher icon. The sequel aims to make Johnny even bigger and meaner, with even more impressive kills.

Having been released in US theaters in May and UK cinemas in July, In a Violent Nature will be available on Shudder later this year. For more information, you can check out a list of the best horror movies or stay updated with upcoming horror films heading our way.
