PlayStation Portal Unveils Cloud Streaming in Beta: A New Era for PS Plus Premium Gamers
- 2024-11-19
The recent advancements in gaming technology are providing new experiences for enthusiasts. PlayStation Portal has introduced cloud streaming, which is currently in beta, expanding the gaming possibilities for PS Plus Premium members. This new functionality allows users to enjoy a vast selection of games right from their devices.
The latest firmware update for PlayStation Portal introduces a feature that many gamers have eagerly anticipated since its inception: cloud streaming. This update has been announced through an official communication, revealing that PlayStation Portal now supports cloud streaming in its beta phase.
In order to utilize cloud streaming, Portal owners must maintain a PS Plus Premium subscription, similar to the requirements for PS5 users. With this new feature, players can access a library of over 120 titles via cloud streaming, featuring popular games like Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Monster Hunter Rise, among many others.
The cloud streaming capability on PlayStation Portal aims for a resolution of 1080p at 60fps. To achieve these performance standards, it is recommended that users have internet speeds of at least 13 Mbps. Nonetheless, those with slower internet connections can still engage with the games at a resolution of 720p, provided their speeds are around 7 Mbps.
Activating the cloud streaming feature is straightforward. It is accessible through the Settings menu of the PlayStation Portal, where users need to enable the 'Cloud Streaming (Beta)' option, which is initially turned off by default. Enabling this feature will add a new cloud streaming entry to the handheld's Home dashboard, enhancing the gaming experience.
Nonetheless, it is crucial to recognize certain restrictions with this beta feature. Currently, it does not support the streaming of PS4 or PS3 titles, nor does it allow for the streaming of games purchased directly from the PlayStation Store. Additional limitations exist for party chat capabilities and trials for PS Plus titles, which are likewise not available at this stage. These restrictions may be attributed to the beta status, with hopes for further features to be added in future updates.
